Israel’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has disclosed that the Israeli government, under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is exploring ways to support Nigeria in addressing insecurity, particularly as it affects Christian communities.
Freeman made this known on Monday, the 5th of January, 2026, while speaking on Prime Time, a programme aired on Arise Television. According to him, Israel’s approach will focus largely on intelligence cooperation, guided by Nigeria’s priorities and security framework.
He explained that any collaboration would be carried out in partnership with the Nigerian government, stressing that sensitive engagements, especially those involving intelligence, would not be made public.
Freeman said: “We will be led by the Nigerian government as to where we can work and partner to help tackle insecurity as a whole within the country.
“Any communication behind the scenes will obviously remain behind the scenes, but as I said, Prime Minister Netanyahu has made his position clear, and so we will do anything we can do in those areas.
“And obviously when you’re dealing with issues of intelligence and information, it’s not something that we’re going to talk about publicly, because that would undermine the entire purpose of having a conversation about intelligence.

“What Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke about was Christians across the world. He didn’t only speak about Christians in Nigeria. He spoke about Christians across the world.
“And he highlighted the fact that Israel is the only country in the Middle East where the Christian population is growing. And I think that was the point that Prime Minister Netanyahu was making,” he said.
He added that Israel remains open to supporting global efforts aimed at safeguarding Christian populations, while respecting confidentiality and the sovereignty of partner nations.
