COAS Orders Troops to Crush Security Threats in Benue, Surrounding States

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed troops of Operation Whirl Stroke to decisively eliminate all security threats in Benue and neighboring states to restore peace and stability in the region.

General Oluyede issued the directive on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, during his maiden operational visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke in Makurdi.

During the visit, the Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Lewis Lepdung, briefed the COAS on the successes recorded so far and the challenges facing the troops. In response, Oluyede reaffirmed his unwavering support for the operation, pledging to provide all necessary resources to ensure its success.

The Army Chief also assured the troops of his commitment to improving their welfare and that of their families, while promising to equip them with combat enablers to enhance their operational efficiency.

As part of his operational tour, General Oluyede visited the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering and the 401 Special Forces Brigade in Makurdi, where he inspected ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at addressing accommodation shortages and improving the living standards of the barracks community.

The visit underscores the Army’s renewed determination to tackle security challenges in the region and ensure lasting peace.
