The governors of the six Southwest states have reached a consensus to create a specialised security force to combat criminal activities such as banditry across the region.
In addition to security measures, they have agreed to establish collaborative food hubs to address escalating food inflation and improve regional security.
This announcement was made by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as he presented the official statement at the conclusion of the South-West Governors Forum meeting held at the Lagos House in Ikeja on Thursday, February 13.
Joining Governor Sanwo-Olu at the meeting were Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, Biodun Oyebaniji of Ekiti, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, and Ademola Adeleke of Osun.
The closed-session gathering, which commenced at 12:15 p.m., focused on issues affecting the region, including security, food production, economic partnerships, and the Southwest Development Commission.

This forum followed a previous meeting held on June 10, 2024, during which Governor Sanwo-Olu was unanimously chosen to chair the group.
Since assuming the leadership role, Governor Sanwo-Olu has pushed for policies that strengthen the Southwest’s regional development.
