Tanker loaded with diesel on Friday exploded and burnt its driver to death. The incident happened at Atoyo area, along Ijebu Ode-Ogbere expressway, Ogun state.
The spokesperson of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the incident, said that the accident which was caused by alleged reckless driving of the tanker driver, who was alone in the truck, occurred at 10:45am and was alone.
According to Ainbiyi, a person who witnessed the accident said that “the driver of the laden diesel tanker was driving recklessly when it suddenly lost control and fell on its side, with its content spilling on the road before it exploded.
“The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle when the unfortunate incident happened and was burnt to ashes before rescue efforts could reach him.
“The make and registration number of the tanker could not be ascertained due to the level of the explosion.”
Speaking further, Akinbiyi appealed to drivers, especially tanker drivers to avoid reckless driving, excessive speed, and drunk driving.
He ended by advising them to always have adequate rest before embarking on any journey to avoid accidents.
