VeryDarkMan Apologizes to Nigeria Police for Wearing Uniform in Video

In response to recent backlash, social critic Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has issued a public apology to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for wearing what appeared to be a police uniform in a video he shared online.

In the video, he humorously introduced himself as a “Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) of the Online Division,” sparking a wave of criticism and an official investigation by the police.

Earlier in the week, the police condemned the unauthorized use of the uniform and launched an investigation to address the incident.

In his apology, shared on Thursday, VeryDarkMan expressed remorse, explaining that he did not intend to impersonate the police in any way.

He clarified that he wore the outfit as a costume for entertainment and not to misrepresent or undermine the NPF.

After being interrogated by police officials, he issued a statement urging Nigerians to obtain authorization before donning any clothing resembling official law enforcement attire to avoid misunderstandings and legal issues.

“Back from the police station where I was interrogated based on the post I made wearing a costume that the police claim is similar to theirs,” he said.

“I didn’t intend to impersonate the police in any way, and I tender my unreserved apologies to the Nigeria Police Force and the office of the Inspector General of Police.”

In addition, VeryDarkMan praised his legal representative, Adeyanju Deji, for his support throughout the incident.

His final remarks included advice for the public, encouraging them to secure approval before wearing any clothing that might be mistaken for official uniforms.

The police have yet to confirm whether any further actions will be taken following his apology.
