Three arrested for vandalizing cables in Ogun

Police in Ogun State have arrested three suspected vandals for allegedly cutting armoured cables from an electric pole at Igbolile Street in the Iwopin area of the state

The suspects are: Saliu Ashimiu, 26; Awolu Ibrahim, 25, and Ibrahim Saliu Ibrahim, 25.

They were arrested following a call by some youth to SP Ebietomiye Adeleke, the officer in charge of Marine, IWOPIN, in Ogun State, that four men suspected to be vandals were sighted cutting armoured cables from an electric pole at Igbolile street IWOPIN.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Monday

Odutola said that SP Adeleke immediately mobilised his team to the scene of crime.

She said the three suspected vandals were nabbed while one took to his heels, as they were caught disengaging one end of the cable tripping off electric supply from a portion of the community.

Items recovered include: two motorcycle used to convey the stolen items, 3 button phones, 1 android phone, 2 iron cables cutters, clothes and repulsive charm

The Police PRO said that the vandals confessed to the crime that they are not employees of IBEDC neither were they officials of Power Holding Company of Nigeria.

She noted that vandals deliberately and willfully damage and destroy public or private property meant for the common enjoyment of the public, these set of young persons cannot claim ignorance of the law, because these would not be their first time, on conviction, they risk a jail term.

Odutola added that the suspect will be charged to Court accordingly and the other suspect who escaped will surely be tracked and arrested.
