Legendary Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo recently expressed his views on monogamy during an episode of ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast.
The role interpreter argued against the concept, stating it is not rooted in African culture and preferring polygamy instead, highlighting that monogamy is a foreign cultural import.
“I don’t believe in one wife. It is not our culture. It is not our tradition. It is not who we are. These are imported things,” he said.
Kanayo asserted that he was unaware of divorce until he moved to Lagos from the South East.
He mentioned that Igbo men prefer to remain married even if it means staying in unhappy marriages.
“I never knew anything about divorce until we came to Lagos. The Igbo man prefers to die in the marriage than divorcing,” he said.
However, the father of four is publicly known to be married to one wife, Nneka Onyekwere.
