In a devastating early morning attack, a group of over 30 terrorists invaded the Guto area of Bwari Area Council in Abuja, killing one woman and abducting four other individuals.
The attackers, divided into two groups, struck the fringes of Guto and Piyawe communities around 12:30 am before moving on to Tudun-Fulani and Sabon Gari areas.
The victim, Madam Alice, in her mid-40s, was visiting her ailing mother when she was tragically killed. Her brother, who was caring for their mother, was among those kidnapped.
Additional abductions took place in Guto and Tudun-Fulani, areas less than a kilometer from the council Secretariat.
Residents describe a night of terror and confusion. “We couldn’t sleep from 12:30 am until almost three o’clock,” said one anonymous resident.
“At first, we thought it was the vigilance teams shooting, but when it became persistent, we realized it was an attack. We have had peace for some time now, but they have resumed with full force. The sounds we heard suggested they had sophisticated weapons.”
Another resident from Tudun-Fulani alleged that police failed to respond despite multiple urgent calls to the Bwari divisional headquarters. “What happened last night was very unfortunate. It was clear they came prepared, and the lack of police intervention left us feeling helpless.”
The community is reeling from the attack, which lasted two hours without any challenge from security agencies.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of local law enforcement and the safety of residents in Bwari Area Council.
In the wake of the attack, filmmaker Zainab Bayero called for the community to remember the Emirate as a symbol of dignity and peace.
Her message is a poignant reminder of the resilience and unity needed in the face of such violence. The people of Bwari now hope for stronger security measures and a swift return to the peace they once knew.
