In a historic announcement at the Money in the Bank event, WWE legend John Cena officially declared his retirement from professional wrestling, marking the end of an illustrious two-decade career.
The 47-year-old superstar revealed plans for a farewell tour leading up to his final match at WrestleMania 41 in 2025.
Cena expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the WWE Universe, thanking fans for their unwavering support and energy throughout his career.
“Why am I here? Tonight I officially announce my retirement from the WWE,” Cena declared.
“I’ve been doing this a while. I’ve been in WWE for over two decades, and in that time I’ve seen incredible waves of prosperity like we got right now. WWE is the hottest ticket in town, no doubt.”
The farewell tour promises to be a nostalgic journey for fans, with Cena making appearances at notable events such as the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania.
“The 2025 Royal Rumble will be my last. The 2025 Elimination Chamber will be my last, and I’m here tonight to announce that WrestleMania Las Vegas in 2025 will be the last WrestleMania I compete in,” Cena announced.
In addition to his in-ring farewell, Cena hinted at remaining involved with WWE beyond his wrestling career, utilizing his experience and wisdom to contribute to the organization’s continued success.
“This farewell does not end tonight. It is filled with opportunity. RAW will make history next year when it moves to Netflix. I’ve never been a part of RAW on Netflix. That is history. That is a first, and I will be there,” Cena shared.
Cena also took a moment to acknowledge the fans’ impact on his career.
“Thank you so much always for your voice, because it’s really loud and your honesty because it’s beautifully brutal and most of all, thank you so much for allowing me to be here with you tonight to let the world know we are planning something unforgettable which also involves me returning to Toronto,” he concluded.
As John Cena prepares to bid farewell to the squared circle, fans worldwide will have the opportunity to celebrate his legendary career and witness his final matches.
The WWE Universe is sure to give Cena the send-off he deserves, honoring a superstar whose impact on professional wrestling will be remembered for generations to come.
