Tears flowed on Sunday in Zaria, Kaduna State, as the remains of the late Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, who died earlier in the day, were buried in palace in the ancient city.
Idris, who died at age 84, was buried beside past emirs of the Zazzau Emirate Council.
Chief Imam of the Zazzau Emirate Council, Alhaji Dalhatu Kasimu, led the funeral prayers in the palace grounds at 5. 35pm in accordance with Islamic rites.
Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasiru El-Rufa’I; Secretary to the State Government, Balarabe Lawal-Abbas; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Yusuf Zailani, and other top government dignitaries attended the late emir’s funeral.
Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, led the Federal Government delegation that included the Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika; Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu; head of military and paramilitary bodies, among others.
Hundreds of residents of Zaria besieged the palace to catch a final glimpse of the remains of the monarch, which arrived at the palace from Kaduna at about 2.45pm.
