Former head of state and Chairman of the National Peace Committee, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.), has urged the re-elected Governor Godwin Obaseki to repay the people of Edo State with the delivery of the dividends of democracy in his second term.
He also congratulated the people of the state on the peaceful conduct of last Saturday’s governorship election.
Independent National Electoral Commission, on Sunday, returned Governor Godwin Obaseki as the winner of the election.
Abdulsalalmi, who appealed to all Nigerians to emulate the Edo people, said Nigerians appreciated the exemplary sacrifice, decorum and courage displayed by the people in the state, which allayed the fears of violence that preceded the elections.
The former head of state in a statement on the Edo 2020 governorship election, commended the Oba of Benin, Omonoba Ewuare II, who teamed up with the National Peace Committee to deploy his moral authority in the appeal for peace.
He also congratulated the contestants, Godwin Obaseki, the winner; Pastor Ize-Iyamu and others who contested the office of governor of the state during last Saturday’s poll.
Abdulsalami enjoined Obaseki to compensate the people of Edo State with all the ingredients of good governance, justice equity.
According to the statement, “Your Excellency, Governor, it is our prayer that you will repay the good people of Edo State with all the ingredients of good governance, justice equity. Once, again, accept our congratulations and may God guide you.”
