Wike labels planned August 1 protest as politically motivated

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized the planned national protest scheduled for August 1, labeling it as politically motivated.

Wike made these remarks on Tuesday in Abuja during an inspection tour of the Apo-Karshi Road, suggesting that the protest aims to divert attention from the efforts of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.

Wike appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the Federal Government, stating that measures are being implemented to alleviate the hardships faced by the masses.

He also issued a seven-month ultimatum to the contractors responsible for the Apo-Karshi Road project, expressing dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work.

According to Wike, 80% of the funds for the project have already been disbursed, leaving no excuse for the delay.

The Apo-Karshi project, awarded in 2011 under President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration at a cost of approximately ₦6 billion, remains incomplete 13 years later.
