‘Current Hunger Temporary’: Wike pleads with FCT residents not to protest

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on residents of Abuja to refrain from participating in the planned nationwide protest against economic hardship and insecurity, set to begin on August 1.

Wike made the appeal during an interaction with residents following his inspection of the ongoing construction of a 5-kilometre access road to Saburi 1 and 2 in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on Thursday.

The minister assured residents that President Bola Tinubu is acutely aware of the challenges faced by Nigerians and is actively working to address them.

He described the current hunger and suffering as temporary, emphasizing that the government’s ongoing reforms and policies will soon bring relief.

“President Tinubu is aware of the concerns of Nigerians and is working hard to address the challenges. The current hunger and suffering are temporary, and the ongoing reforms and policies will soon yield the desired results,” Wike stated.

He also suggested that the protest is being organized by some politicians with the intention of destabilizing President Tinubu’s administration.

“The protest is being organized by some politicians in a bid to destabilize Tinubu’s administration,” he alleged.

Unidentified groups have planned to embark on a peaceful protest beginning August 1 to highlight issues of hunger and insecurity in the country.

However, Wike urged residents to exercise patience and trust in the government’s efforts to improve the situation.

This call comes amid rising tensions and mixed reactions from various quarters regarding the planned demonstration.
