Nationwide Protest Concerns: APC govs meet Tinubu

Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are intensifying efforts to quell public unrest ahead of the planned nationwide protests against hunger and bad governance scheduled for August 1.

A series of high-level meetings began last night at the Imo Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, with discussions focused on mitigating the anticipated public discontent.

The initial meeting, which included the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, saw a plea for patience from the public to allow President Bola Tinubu to fully implement his economic interventions.

Following this, the governors engaged in an expanded session with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume. This meeting, which extended into the early hours of Thursday morning, addressed critical issues of security management and the economic policies that need urgent attention to stabilize the situation.

By noon on Thursday, the governors, along with the reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, who recently defected to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reconvened and moved as a group to meet with President Tinubu.

The discussions are seen as pivotal in the administration’s strategy to manage the public’s growing dissatisfaction and prevent the protest from escalating into wider unrest.
