Tinubu Welcomes APC Victory in Edo; Commends Peaceful Conduct of Election

President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, on his victory in the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Okpebholo the winner on Sunday, marking a significant achievement for the party.

In a statement, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, Information and Strategy, Tinubu commended the efforts of APC national leaders, Edo State leaders, and party governors for their dedication to securing this victory.

He noted that the outcome reflects the people’s support for the ruling party and its progressive ideals, emphasizing its economic reengineering program and commitment to enhancing the lives of Nigerians.

The President urged Senator Okpebholo to view his victory not as a reason for celebration, but as a call to service. He encouraged the newly elected governor to extend an olive branch to his political rivals and work towards uniting the people of Edo State for its development.

Additionally, President Tinubu praised all candidates who participated in the election, highlighting their role in advancing Nigeria’s democracy.

He emphasized that peaceful political contests like the recent election contribute to portraying Nigeria as a stable democracy.

In his remarks, the President called on those dissatisfied with the election results to seek resolution through legal means. He also commended the people of Edo State for their orderly and peaceful conduct during the election, underscoring the maturation of Nigeria’s democracy over the past 25 years.

“I commend the INEC and our security agencies for working tirelessly to conduct a successful, peaceful, and largely hitch-free exercise,” President Tinubu stated.

“INEC has once again demonstrated its commitment to organizing a free and fair election in our country.”
