Ahead of the Ondo State governorship election scheduled for November 16, 2024, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set the dates for the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) for registered voters.
PVC distribution will begin on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
This announcement was made by the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, in a statement on Monday.
According to the statement, INEC has printed and delivered 89,777 new PVCs to its office in Akure. These include 58,708 for new voters and 31,069 for individuals who applied for transfers, updates, or replacements of lost or damaged cards.
“The PVCs for all categories of applicants will be available for collection in 221 centres across the state at two levels. First, in all the 203 Wards from Thursday 17th to Monday 21st October 2024. Secondly, in our 18 LGA offices from Wednesday 23rd to Tuesday 29th October 2024 from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm daily (including the weekends),” the statement read.
Additionally, the commission said that uncollected PVCs from previous registrations will also be available for collection during this period.
Registered voters are urged to pick up their cards in person, as collection by proxy is not allowed.
“We appeal to registered voters in the State to pick up their PVCs in person on the approved dates. The commission reiterates its policy that no cards will be collected by proxy,” Olumekun said.
Detailed information on collection centres, including addresses for Ward and Local Government locations, is available on INEC’s website and social media platforms.
To ease the collection process, INEC will also upload the register of new voters to its website for easier identification of names and collection centres.
