The All Progressives Congress (APC) has claimed victory in all 21 local government chairmanship positions and the 239 councillorship seats in the just-concluded Kogi State council elections held on Saturday.

Mamman Nda-Eri, Chairperson of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), announced the results, describing the elections as “peaceful, free, and fair.”

“APC performed excellently; it cleared all the chairmanship and councillorship positions, leaving nothing to the other 18 political parties that took part in the election,” Nda-Eri said, as quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Nda-Eri noted that the results were initially declared at various collation centres by the respective returning officers before being confirmed at the KOSIEC headquarters.

He expressed gratitude to election officials, security personnel, observers, and journalists for their roles in ensuring the election’s success.

Nda-Eri also urged the newly elected officials to be magnanimous in victory, reminding them to justify the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government financial autonomy.

The KOSIEC chairperson concluded by thanking all who contributed positively to the smooth conduct of the election.
