The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano has apprehended two individuals for alleged vandalism and theft involving a mosque and electricity infrastructure.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, announced the arrests in a statement on Monday.
One suspect, 35-year-old Murtala Aliyu Muhd, was caught after breaking into the Dakata Juma’at mosque through a window late at night.
“The suspect successfully stole one of the mosque’s solar energy batteries, which supplies electricity to the worship centre,” Abdullahi stated.
Aliyu was later arrested at a checkpoint while attempting to sell the stolen battery.
“He failed to provide a satisfactory explanation of where he obtained the battery or was taking it,” Abdullahi added.
The suspect also confessed to stealing over ₦300,000 from the mosque in a prior incident.
In a separate case, 19-year-old Musbahu Sani was detained while transporting large armoured cables suspected to have been stolen from a transformer in Darmanawa quarters, Tarauni Local Government Area.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted to removing the wires from an electricity installation. He was on his way to sell them at the market when he was captured by civil defence personnel along Court Road, Gyadi-Gyadi, Kano State,” Abdullahi disclosed.
Both suspects are set to be prosecuted following the conclusion of investigations.
