The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) announced on Tuesday, November 26, that the Port Harcourt Refinery has officially begun processing crude oil.
In a message to The Nation, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, described the development as a significant milestone for Nigeria.
He stated, “Today marks a monumental achievement for Nigeria as the Port Harcourt Refinery officially commences crude oil processing.
“This groundbreaking milestone signifies a new era of energy independence and economic growth for our nation.
Soneye revealed that the refinery will operate at 60 percent capacity and process 60,000bpd.
He also extended congratulations to key stakeholders for their contributions to the project.
“Hearty congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and the exceptional leadership of GCEO Mele Kyari for their unwavering commitment to this transformative project.
“Together, we are reshaping Nigeria’s energy future!”
The commencement of operations at the Port Harcourt Refinery is expected to bolster domestic fuel production and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.
