A violent clash between the supporters of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, caused panic on Sunday in Akure, Ondo State capital.
Members of the two parties — the All Progressives Congress and the PDP — unleashed violence on each other along Oba Adeshida road.
The clash, which lasted for several minutes, halted the movement of vehicles in the area.
The incident was said to be a reprisal attack over the alleged killing of an APC member in Oba Nla area of the town on Saturday night.
A witness said many people were injured in the clash and vehicles belonging to both parties vandalised.
There have been episodes of violence in the state as the governorship election scheduled for October 10 approaches.
Independent National Electoral Commission had said it identified 270 flashpoints across the polling units in the state.
