NOA Kicks Off Nationwide Sensitisation Campaign on HIV, Security, Tax Reforms

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has officially launched a nationwide sensitisation campaign aimed at tackling key national issues such as HIV/AIDS, security awareness, the get-rich-quick syndrome, human rights, and tax reforms.

The campaign was flagged off on Wednesday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, with the theme “Promoting Awareness, Ethical Values, and National Development.”

Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director-General of NOA, stressed the importance of the initiative, stating that these issues are critical to the country’s well-being and progress.

Issa-Onilu, who was represented by Olufunke Salako, the NOA Director in Ogun, said the campaign is designed to mobilise Nigerians across all levels to actively participate in addressing these challenges.

The campaign coincides with World HIV/AIDS Day, observed on December 1. Issa-Onilu highlighted that the government has intensified efforts to provide free HIV testing, counseling, and antiretroviral treatment nationwide.

He urged citizens to take advantage of these services and adopt responsible health behaviors to help curb the spread of HIV.

“Government alone cannot win this fight. Citizens must take responsibility and support people living with HIV/AIDS,” Issa-Onilu said.

Security consciousness is another focus of the campaign, with the NOA urging Nigerians to stay vigilant and work together to ensure safer communities.

Issa-Onilu also addressed the growing trend of the get-rich-quick syndrome, especially during the festive season.

He advised Nigerians to reject shortcuts to wealth and instead embrace integrity, hard work, and government-sponsored initiatives to improve their lives.

The NOA is also raising awareness on the importance of tax compliance, encouraging citizens to contribute to the nation’s development by fulfilling their tax obligations.

The campaign will be carried out across Nigeria’s 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and 774 local government areas, utilizing various platforms to spread its messages.

Issa-Onilu called for collective action, stating that the success of the campaign depends on the participation of all Nigerians in addressing these critical issues for the greater good of the nation.
