Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has decried the brazen theft of a substantial quantity of rice from the state government’s farm in the Jangwa community of Awe Local Government Area, branding it a “serious setback” to efforts aimed at combating hunger and boosting food security.
The governor made this revelation on the 5th of December, 2024, while addressing a delegation from the Azara community, led by Sarkin Azara, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim, at the Government House in Lafia.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, Sule lamented the actions of the criminals, noting that while the government was “pleased with the yield recorded,” it was “saddened by the level of theft during the harvest.”
Calling the incident deeply unfortunate, the governor criticized the theft as a betrayal of the state’s tireless work to uplift residents amid economic challenges.
“This level of theft is disheartening, particularly at a time when we are doing everything possible to bring relief to our people and ensure food security in Nasarawa and beyond,” Sule stated firmly.
He further issued a stern warning, pledging that those apprehended for stealing from the farm would face the “full wrath of the law.”
Undeterred by the setback, Governor Sule reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to agricultural growth and resilience in food production.
He expressed gratitude to traditional rulers and residents for their unwavering support, which he credited with driving the state’s agricultural successes.
“We will not be deterred. Nasarawa State, being an agricultural hub, must have its government leading the charge in agricultural activities,” the governor concluded with resolve.
