PSC Dismisses Two ASPs for Misconduct, Demotes Six Others

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has dismissed two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) for gross misconduct, including dishonesty, corruption, and sabotage.

Six other officers were demoted for similar offences.

In a statement released on Monday, PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani confirmed that the decisions were made during the commission’s second plenary meeting at its headquarters in Abuja.

Ani stated, “The Police Service Commission has approved the dismissal and prosecution of two ASPs for misconduct, dishonesty, corruption, sabotage, and acts unbecoming of public officers.

“The Commission also approved the reduction in ranks of six other officers on related offences.”

The demoted officers include two Superintendents of Police reduced to Deputy Superintendents, one Deputy Superintendent demoted to Assistant Superintendent, and three Assistant Superintendents lowered to the rank of Inspector.

The PSC also disciplined ten senior officers for unauthorised disclosure of official secrets, dishonesty, and unprofessional conduct.

Nine others received reprimands, while a Deputy Commissioner of Police was cleared of all allegations.

Additionally, an Assistant Superintendent of Police was issued a warning letter.

Regarding promotions, Ani announced the elevation of several senior officers.

Eleven Commissioners of Police were promoted to Assistant Inspectors General. Sixteen Deputy Commissioners advanced to Commissioners.

Twenty-one Assistant Commissioners were elevated to Deputy Commissioners. Fifty-seven Chief Superintendents became Assistant Commissioners.

A total of 1,348 Superintendents were promoted to Chief Superintendents. These included Obi-Ejoh Nnamdi Patrick, now serving in Kaduna Command, and Milicent Amadi, State CID Ebonyi Command.

Furthermore, 876 Deputy Superintendents were promoted to Superintendents, including Enugu State Command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe.

Ani reaffirmed the PSC’s commitment to maintaining discipline and professionalism within the police force.

He said the commission is determined to hold officers accountable while ensuring deserving individuals are recognised and rewarded for their service.
