A Nasarawa State High Court has ordered the remand of acclaimed gospel singer Timilehin Ajayi, who was arrested for allegedly killing and dismembering Salome Adaidu, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.
The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the remand in a statement on its X page on Friday, stating, “Timilehin Ajayi was charged to court today and remanded in prison custody pending his formal arraignment.”
Ajayi was apprehended after churchgoers reportedly caught him discarding a bag containing Adaidu’s severed head into a river.
Caleb Umaru, a Bible Study Teacher and General Secretary of the church, said a member noticed Ajayi behaving suspiciously near the river and raised an alarm.
The police revealed that Ajayi confessed to the crime, claiming he killed Adaidu, his alleged girlfriend, because she was cheating on him. However, he showed no remorse, reportedly stating he had no regrets for his actions.
The family of the deceased disputed Ajayi’s claims, insisting their sister was not in a relationship with him and alleging she had been kidnapped before her death.
Ajayi’s formal arraignment is pending, while investigations continue.
