The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the deployment of 10,000 newly trained constables to their respective states of origin to strengthen community policing efforts.

This was revealed on Thursday in a statement by the Force Spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. He noted that the recruits had undergone a six-month intensive training programme at 16 police colleges and training schools nationwide.

Speaking during the Passing Out Parade at the Police Training School in Bauchi, Egbetokun, represented by Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, charged the constables to embrace professionalism, fairness, and friendliness in their duties.

“The exercise marks the culmination of a six-month rigorous training programme that has pushed the recruits to their physical and intellectual limits,” Egbetokun said.

He highlighted that the training equipped the constables with fundamental policing ethics, norms, and practices to address Nigeria’s complex security challenges effectively.

The IGP emphasised that the deployment aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s approval of an annual recruitment target of 30,000 police constables to enhance internal security and improve police service delivery nationwide.

“We have high expectations for this graduating class of constables, and we are confident that they will uphold the values imparted to them during their training, thereby contributing to the enhancement of law enforcement in our country,” Egbetokun added.

The new constables are expected to bolster the Nigeria Police Force’s capacity to maintain law and order across communities while fostering trust between citizens and law enforcement.
