Omoyele Sowore Granted Bail, Vows to Reject Compromising Conditions

Former presidential candidate and activist Omoyele Sowore has revealed that he has been granted bail following his engagement with the Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja on Monday.

Sowore, however, made it clear that he would not accept any bail conditions that he perceives as compromising his “innocence, dignity, and integrity.”

The activist was reportedly summoned to respond to allegations, including resisting and obstructing public officers, disobedience to lawful orders, cyberstalking, and acts allegedly aimed at preventing arrests.

In a statement on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Sowore alleged that the actions against him stem from his public criticism of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over his tenure extension.

He further claimed that the police intended to detain him and transport him to Lagos for what he described as a “kangaroo trial.”

In a subsequent post, Sowore disclosed that the Deputy Inspector-General of Police at the FID, Dasuki Galandachi, informed him of the bail offer pending the conclusion of the investigation.

He stated, “The DIG of FID, Dasuki Galandachi, at the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja, had just informed me that he has instructed his personnel to grant me bail, pending the conclusion of the ‘investigation.

“I have also advised the DIG that in accepting ‘bail,’ I will not agree to conditions that compromise my innocence, dignity, and integrity. If such unreasonable conditions are imposed, I will choose to remain in detention until I am charged to court.”

Sowore reiterated his belief that no crime has been committed and that the police’s actions reflect what he described as the “impunity” prevalent in the hierarchy of the Nigeria Police Force.

This development follows a series of engagements between Sowore and the police, including a tense visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja earlier this month.
