Security operatives in Anambra State have uncovered more than 30 graves and a shrine inside a hotel in Oba, Idemili South LGA.
The discovery was made over the weekend after a resident’s report prompted an investigation.
The property, registered as Udoka Golden Point Hotel and Suites but commonly called La Cruise Hotel, was located along the Onitsha-Owerri road.
A post on the Anambra State government’s X handle revealed that the graves were “well-partitioned on the last floor with a shrine.”
Onyeka Ibezim, Anambra’s deputy governor, led security operatives to demolish the building on Saturday.
Speaking after the demolition, he affirmed the state’s strict stance against criminal activities.
“The state has zero tolerance for all sorts of criminality. Our people must go on with their businesses,” Ibezim said.
Videos of the graves and the hotel’s demolition have since circulated widely on social media, drawing public outrage.
This incident comes just months after a mass grave was discovered in the state by a committee set up by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to tackle secessionist agitations, insecurity, and related challenges.
