Osimhen Scores Late as Galatasaray Fall to Ajax in UEL

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen found the net late in stoppage time, but his goal was not enough to prevent Galatasaray from falling to a 2-1 defeat against Chuba Akpom’s AFC Ajax in their final UEFA Europa League group stage match.

Despite the loss, both teams have secured their places in the Europa League playoffs.

Ajax took the lead in the 23rd minute through Boga Traoré, who finished off a well-worked attacking move to put the Dutch side ahead.

The first half ended 1-0 in favor of the hosts.

The Eredivisie side doubled their advantage in the 58th minute when Kenneth Taylor found the back of the net, leaving Galatasaray with a mountain to climb.

Osimhen, who has been a key figure for the Turkish giants since joining, managed to pull one back in the 94th minute after capitalizing on a scramble play in the Ajax box.

However, it was too little, too late, as Ajax held on for the win.

Both teams will now shift their focus to the knockout playoffs, where they will battle for a spot in the Europa League Round of 16.
