Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, issued an apology on Tuesday, February 11, to the Senate Public Accounts Committee (SPAC) for failing to attend multiple hearings regarding the Nigeria Police Force’s financial queries raised by the Auditor General.

Last week, SPAC Chairman Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada had warned of a potential arrest warrant for Egbetokun if he continued to disregard the committee’s summons.

Testifying under oath, Egbetokun explained that his absence was not deliberate but due to the heavy demands of his office.

He assured lawmakers that this would not happen again.

Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP – Bauchi Central) accepted the apology, stating, “The IGP’s presence here shows no one is above the law.”

He further urged other invitees, including heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), to ensure they attend hearings on time to respond to queries.

In response to the committee’s request, Egbetokun introduced the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Police Accounts, Abdul Sulaiman, as his representative for future committee meetings.
