The Labour Party has clarified that it has not zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South-East.
The clarification was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, in response to a circulating report.
Ifoh, speaking in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, February 17, explained that the party had no intention of zoning any positions to any particular region or individual.
He also addressed a statement from the party’s National Chairman, Mr. Julius Abure, which had been misinterpreted.
He stated, “The statement by our National Chairman was quoted out of context. Abure did not say the party had zoned the presidential ticket to the South-East.
“What he conveyed was that Ndigbo could still achieve the presidency through unity and collaboration with other groups.”
Ifoh further emphasised that the Labour Party remains a national platform with significant support across the country.
He pointed out that the party’s constitution prohibits zoning and that all positions must be filled through competitive and democratic processes.

“The Labour Party has won seats in the North and South, and we are working to build on that success,” Ifoh added.
He expressed regret over the misinterpretation and affirmed that the party’s focus remains on working for Nigeria’s future.
In conclusion, Ifoh expressed appreciation for the public’s response to the misinformation, saying it reflected the widespread support for the party’s mission. “We will not fail you. Together, we shall overcome,” he pledged.
