Appeals Court Blocks Trump’s Birthright Citizenship Ban

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has delivered a significant legal blow to the Trump administration by blocking its controversial order banning birthright citizenship from taking effect on the 19th of February, 2025.

Despite multiple district courts across the U.S. previously halting the order, the Trump government sought emergency relief earlier this month only to face yet another setback.

According to Fox News, this latest ruling could propel the heated issue to the Supreme Court. The appellate judges, in a unanimous decision, ruled that the administration failed to demonstrate a strong likelihood of success in its appeal.

“The emergency motion for a partial stay of the district court’s February 6, 2025, preliminary injunction is denied,” the judges firmly stated.

Reports indicate that, so far, no court has upheld the administration’s executive order targeting birthright citizenship.

This ruling reinforces a Seattle district court’s earlier decision to temporarily block the order from being enforced.

Meanwhile, the court has set a June deadline to conduct a deeper review of the case’s merits, ensuring the legal battle is far from over.
