Court Orders All Lagos Lawmakers Joined in Obasa’s Suit, Adjourns Case

The Lagos High Court in Ikeja has ruled that all members of the Lagos State House of Assembly must be included as parties in the legal challenge filed by Mudashiru Obasa over his removal as Speaker.

On Friday, 35 lawmakers loyal to the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, appeared in court as proceedings began. Meranda herself was also present.

Justice Yetunde Pinheiro issued the directive and adjourned the case until March 7, when all pending applications will be heard.

Obasa, who was removed from office on January 13 by 36 lawmakers while he was out of the country, is contesting the legality of his ousting.

His application, dated February 12, was filed by his lawyer, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN).

A legal team led by Prof. Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) is representing Meranda, while Femi Falana (SAN) and Muiz Banire (SAN) are defending the 36 lawmakers who voted for Obasa’s removal.

Obasa is represented by Fashanu, while other parties seeking to join the case are being represented by Olu Daramola (SAN) and Dada Awosika (SAN).

The legal battle over Obasa’s removal has intensified, with both factions standing firm. The court’s decision on March 7 could significantly shape the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
