Suspected Cable Vandal Electrocuted, Three Accomplices Arrested in Lagos

A suspected cable vandal, Innocent Victor, was electrocuted while attempting to cut high-voltage electrical cables in the Ilara area of Eredo LCDA Epe, Lagos State, in the early hours of today. His three accomplices were arrested by local security operatives.

The incident occurred around 2:00 AM, when residents of Ilara suddenly experienced a power outage, raising suspicions. Prompted by the disruption, local security personnel, ILARA SECURITY, launched an investigation and arrived at the scene, where they discovered Victor severely injured from an electric shock.

His accomplices attempted to escape but were quickly apprehended.

A Toyota Camry with registration number BDC 22GX, containing various tools used for the act, was recovered from the suspects.

Security Officer Confirms Arrest

A security officer, speaking on the incident, stated:
“During our patrol, we noticed the power went off suddenly. As we moved closer, we heard a loud noise and saw one of the vandals struggling with electric shock. His accomplices tried to escape, but we overpowered them and handed them over to the authorities.”

Residents Express Relief

Residents of Ilara, who have long suffered from recurring power outages due to cable theft, expressed relief over the arrest. One resident said:
“For months, we have been suffering from constant power outages due to cable theft. It was frustrating. But when we heard the thieves had been caught, it was exciting news. We hope the law will deal with them properly.”

The arrested suspects have been handed over to security authorities for further investigation. Officials have urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent further vandalism.

Authorities continue to emphasize the dangers of tampering with electrical infrastructure, not only as a criminal act but as a highly life-threatening one.
