Nigeria Seeks Deeper UK Collaboration on Economy, Security — Tuggar

Nigeria remains committed to deepening its diplomatic and economic ties with the United Kingdom, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar has said.

In a statement issued Tuesday, March 4, in Abuja by ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, Tuggar highlighted trade, investment, technology, media, and academia as key areas of focus during his three-day high-level visit to the UK from March 3 to 5.

“This visit marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s foreign policy under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, reinforcing his administration’s economic diplomacy, strategic partnerships, and regional security cooperation agenda,” he said.

Tuggar stated that Nigeria seeks to consolidate its longstanding relationship with the UK, explore new avenues for economic growth, and reaffirm its commitment to regional peace and stability.

He emphasised that diplomatic efforts must translate into tangible benefits for national security, economic development, and the well-being of Nigerians.

His itinerary includes a discussion at Chatham House on Nigeria’s evolving foreign policy and global aspirations, as well as engagements at the House of Commons focusing on economic diversification, investment climate, and digital transformation.

The minister is also scheduled to meet with key media stakeholders at the BBC House in London to discuss Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities and global positioning.

Additionally, he will engage with JP Morgan and British International Investment (BII) to explore financial cooperation, attract capital flows, and strengthen Nigeria’s financial sector.

Security and intelligence-sharing on counter-extremism, along with efforts to address instability in West Africa, will also be on the agenda during talks with senior UK government officials.

“This will expand business and investment opportunities to support Nigeria’s economic growth and job creation, strengthen collaboration in education, research, and technology between Nigerian and UK academic institutions,” Tuggar added.
