On the 4th of March, 2025, The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought six high-ranking officials of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) before the law, accusing them of financial misconduct.
The officials, who were arraigned before Justice Akanbi of the State High Court in Ilorin, are facing a four-count charge involving criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of funds totaling a staggering ₦96 million.
In a statement released on its official X handle, the anti-graft agency identified the defendants as Ahmed Husain Olarewaju, Director of Finance and Supply; Omole Omololu John, Controller of Finance and Accounts; Fatai Oyerinde, Coordinator of the Salary Unit; Mujeeb Mujeeb Ibrahim, Executive Officer for Account and Salary Schedule; as well as Salami Temitope Bashir and Dauda Aweda Quozim, both staff members of the Salary Unit at Kwara SUBEB.
When the charges were read to them in court, the six officials pleaded “not guilty” to the allegations.

Prosecuting counsel Andrew Akoja urged the court to fix a date for trial and requested that the accused persons be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Centre.
However, the defense team, led by Abdullahi Lawal, swiftly made oral bail applications on behalf of their clients.
After hearing both sides, Justice Akanbi adjourned the case until Wednesday, 16th of April, 2025, for trial and ruled that the defendants be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Ilorin until further proceedings.
