President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the designation of Finland-based Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa Njoku, and 15 others as terrorism financiers in a decisive move to curb terrorism financing in Nigeria.
The decision, based on recommendations from the Nigeria Sanctions Committee, was announced on Wednesday by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi.
At the committee’s meeting on March 6, 2025, the government invoked Section 54 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, officially listing the individuals and entities on the Nigeria Sanctions List.
The designation empowers authorities to freeze all funds, assets, and economic resources linked to the affected individuals and entities without prior notice. Financial institutions have been instructed to report any frozen assets to the Sanctions Committee and file a Suspicious Transactions Report with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).
