Rivers Drama: Shehu Sani Declares ‘Halftime’ in Fubara Impeachment Match

In a dramatic political twist, President Bola Tinubu has suspended Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, for six months, citing concerns over the state’s escalating political crisis.

The move also saw the suspension of all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, with retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas appointed to oversee the state’s affairs.

Reacting to this development, former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani took to X with a cryptic remark, saying: “The impeaching forces and the impeachment target can now rest for six months.”

His statement hints at a temporary ceasefire in the heated battle between Fubara and his political adversaries, who had been pushing for his impeachment.

Tinubu’s decision, announced during a nationwide broadcast on the 18th of March, 2025, followed a high-level security meeting at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa with his service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police.

Expressing deep concern over the turmoil in Rivers, the President accused Fubara of demolishing the State House of Assembly building a key event in the power struggle rocking the oil-rich state.

With this suspension, the political landscape in Rivers has taken a new turn, setting the stage for intense political maneuvering in the months ahead.
