Olumo Rock to Become Top Tourist Destination — Gov. Abiodun Vows

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has unveiled an ambitious vision to transform Olumo Rock into Nigeria’s premier tourism hotspot.

With a renewed commitment to unlocking the economic potential of the tourism sector, his administration is set to prioritize this industry as a key driver of growth.

During an inspection of the iconic Olumo Rock Tourist Center on the 19th of March, 2025, Governor Abiodun emphasized the historical and cultural significance of the site, which drew over 20,000 visitors in 2024.

He assured that the ancient fortress, deeply rooted in the heritage of Egbaland and Ogun State, would soon undergo a remarkable facelift to enhance its global appeal.

“Now, the tables have finally turned to tourism, and we are going to be very deliberate about pushing the frontier in our tourist development,” he declared.

Highlighting the immense economic opportunities within the tourism sector, the governor pointed out that several nations have shifted from oil dependence to thriving on tourism revenue. He expressed confidence that Ogun State could also harness these benefits by revitalizing its tourist sites.

Governor Abiodun reaffirmed Olumo Rock’s status as the state’s foremost attraction, vowing to elevate its infrastructure, aesthetics, and overall visitor experience. He stressed the need for deliberate government action to preserve, maintain, and enhance heritage sites, warning that neglect could lead to their gradual deterioration.

“These tourist sites represent our very deep culture, history, and tradition, and we must do everything to protect them and ensure that they are sustained because they remain our connection between the present and the past. Long after many of us are gone, they will continue to remind our generation of where we all came from and our history.”

Expressing appreciation for those who have maintained Olumo Rock, the governor assured that it would now receive the highest level of attention. He acknowledged areas requiring improvement and pledged that his administration would act swiftly to implement necessary changes.

Beyond tourism, Governor Abiodun highlighted his government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, social development, and agriculture.

He concluded with a firm promise: “We will develop a plan to ensure that Olumo Rock indeed has a much better and befitting presentation going forward.”
