Olori Ameenah Adeleye Matemilola, wife of the Olowu of Owu, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has declared that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has every right to seek justice in court over allegations of sexual harassment.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, recently accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment. The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions subsequently suspended her for six months, prompting her legal action.
Speaking at an event marking International Women’s Day in Abeokuta, Olori Matemilola emphasized that any woman who feels violated should be free to seek justice.
“If she believes she has been harassed and seeks justice, there is nothing wrong with that. She has the right to demand justice,” the monarch’s wife stated.
The event, organized by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in collaboration with JESA Future Foundation, was held at the NUJ Secretariat in Abeokuta under the theme “Rights, Equality, and Empowerment for All Women and Girls.”
Olori Matemilola also advised women to focus on equity rather than equality with men, urging them to empower one another through entrepreneurship and leadership training.

“We need to prioritize equity over equality. Women should be trained in leadership and entrepreneurship so they can become self-sufficient and contribute meaningfully to society,” she added.
Earlier, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Ogun State Chapter, Alhaja Sekinat Salam, highlighted the association’s efforts in empowering over 20 women with entrepreneurial skills, including soap-making, air freshener production, and small-scale food processing.
“Our goal is to sensitize women on their potential and provide them with the tools to be self-reliant. We must shift our focus from competing with men to supporting one another,” Salam stated.
The event underscored the importance of women’s empowerment and the need for continuous advocacy in ensuring justice and equality for all.
