The House of Representatives has reversed its decision on two bills seeking to amend the death penalty law and strip the vice president, governors, and their deputies of immunity.
House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere announced the resolution during plenary on Thursday, March 27, a day after both bills passed second reading as part of 42 proposed legislations.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who presided in the absence of Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, explained that the reversal was to allow for a more thorough debate on the matters.
“We want to apologise to the sponsors of the bills, but this action is to enable the House to have a further debate considering the importance of the subject matters,” Kalu said.
