The Executive Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Hon. Afeez Balogun, has presented a ₦9.89 billion budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year to the Legislative Council.
Presenting the budget at the council’s legislative chamber, Balogun stated that the proposal aligns with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ISEYA agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aimed at fostering growth and development in the local government.
He highlighted key factors that influenced the budget increase, including the removal of fuel subsidies, minimum wage adjustments, anticipated staff promotions, incremental salary awards, and various developmental projects.
Budget Breakdown
According to Balogun, the proposed budget’s total expenditure stands at ₦9,894,011,092.84, allocated as follows:
Capital Expenditure: ₦2.15 billion (21.69%) – earmarked for infrastructure and other physical projects to improve residents’ quality of life.
Operational Costs: ₦1.18 billion (11.90%) – allocated for the day-to-day running of the local government.
Salaries and Allowances: ₦1.78 billion (17.95%) – covering staff remuneration and benefits.

The chairman expressed confidence in achieving the budget’s goals with the support of the Legislative Council, community leaders, and residents. He urged legislators to prioritize the budget’s review and collaborate towards achieving a better future for all.
Legislative Support
In response, the Leader of the House, Hon. Jamiu Ogundairo, assured the chairman of the council’s full support for policies aimed at poverty alleviation, security enhancement, and economic development.
Ogundairo emphasized the need for swift intervention to ease economic hardships and called on the chairman to restore hope among constituents.
“The budget before us is not just a financial document; it is a reflection of our collective resolve to address the critical needs of our people, foster economic growth, and ensure peace and security within the local government,” he stated.
He reaffirmed the legislative arm’s commitment to working closely with the executive council to ensure the successful implementation of the budget and the overall development of Abeokuta South.
