The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has announced the seizure and subsequent destruction of significant quantities of prohibited substances across various parts of the state.
The confiscated items included 51 cartons of alcohol and 18 jerrycans of methylene chloride, locally referred to as Madarar Sukurdai.
In a statement released on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the Chairman of the commission, Yahuza Abubakar, confirmed the actions were taken in accordance with state laws and Islamic values, which forbid the sale and consumption of alcohol and other intoxicants within Yobe State.
Beyond its enforcement activities, Chairman Abubakar also highlighted the Commission’s role in conflict resolution during the previous year. He disclosed that Hisbah successfully mediated and helped settle a total of 565 cases throughout 2024.

These resolved cases spanned a wide range of issues, including familial problems, disagreements arising from business transactions, disputes over inheritance, inter-community conflicts, issues related to unpaid rent, conflicts between farmers and herders, and various other forms of debt recovery.
According to Abubakar, the vast majority of these disputes were resolved peacefully.
“Most of these cases were resolved amicably through reconciliation and understanding,” he stated.
