The political drama in Rivers State has taken a fiery new turn as Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has dragged Channels Television and the former Head of Service, George Nweke, to court — demanding a whopping N2 billion in damages over alleged defamation.
At the heart of the legal storm is a March 29 interview aired on Channels TV, where Nweke reportedly made claims that Ehie says were not only false and malicious, but also broadcast in a “most wicked” manner.
In a high-stakes appearance before Justice Stephen Jumbo on Thursday, Ehie’s legal heavyweight, Tuduru Edeh, SAN, didn’t hold back.
He called for a perpetual injunction to bar Nweke and Channels TV from further spreading what he described as damaging lies — and demanded an immediate public apology.

But not just any apology: Edeh wants it aired on national television and splashed across two major newspapers. The goal? To restore his client’s reputation and “correct the narrative,” he said.
Justice Jumbo agreed to the initial demands, ordering all parties to cease public commentary on the case until the court makes a final ruling.
He then adjourned the matter until June 4, 2025, for further proceedings.
The lawsuit is the latest twist in the ongoing political tension surrounding Fubara’s suspension — a saga that has kept Rivers State watchers glued to the headlines.
