Bauchi Approves N872.3m Counterpart Fund to Bolster Primary Healthcare

The Bauchi State Government has demonstrated commitment to enhancing its primary healthcare system by approving N872.3 million as counterpart funding for the Primary Healthcare Basket Fund. The approval was granted by the State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed.

This development was announced by the Deputy Governor, Mohammed Auwal Jatau, while presiding over a meeting of the State Task Force on Primary Healthcare.

Mr. Jatau highlighted that over N261 million from this fund has already been disbursed to support the operations of the state’s healthcare board.

The Deputy Governor explained that the task force meeting served multiple purposes: reviewing achievements based on previous health plans, sharing updates regarding the 2025 operational strategy, and coordinating preparations for the upcoming April National Immunization Plus Days campaign.

During the session, Mr. Jatau expressed gratitude towards health workers and volunteers for their unwavering dedication. In recognition of exceptional performance, he also presented awards to outstanding individuals and specific health centres that demonstrated exemplary service delivery.

Reaffirming the state government’s policy direction, the Deputy Governor assured attendees of continued strategic investments in the healthcare sector. He emphasized a particular focus on improving health outcomes for women and children, aligning with the state’s broader objective of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all residents.

Mr. Jatau further acknowledged the vital contributions of various development partners working within the state. He called for sustained collaboration and partnership to further strengthen Bauchi‘s healthcare infrastructure and service delivery mechanisms.

Also present and speaking at the meeting was the Emir of Dass, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman, who serves as the co-chairman of the task force.

The traditional ruler commended the noticeable progress being achieved in various health programs implemented across the state.
