Teen Who Stood Before Obi’s Convoy Finally Freed

A young Nigerian who captured hearts across the country after a viral moment during the 2023 general election season has finally regained his freedom.

Alabi Quadri, the 17-year-old who made headlines for bravely standing in front of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s convoy, has been released by the Magistrate Court in Apapa.

His release comes after months in detention, a situation that drew public attention and legal concern.

Quadri had been held since January, according to his legal representatives.

Magistrate Adetola Olorunfemi ordered his release following legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), effectively bringing the case to a close.

The case sparked debate over the treatment of minors and the power of political symbolism in Nigeria’s tense electoral environment. For many, Quadri’s act whether seen as defiance or admiration — became a symbol of the charged atmosphere surrounding the 2023 polls.
