The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has been recognized as the best road safety agency in Africa, receiving the prestigious Kofi Annan Road Safety Award. This significant achievement was announced in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Olusegun Ogungbemide.

The FRSC was presented with the award at the 3rd edition of the Kofi Annan Road Safety Award ceremony held in Elzuwini, in the Kingdom of Eswatini, South Africa.

Mr. Ogungbemide stated that this recognition underscores the Corps’ nearly four decades of unwavering dedication, resilience, and commitment to safeguarding lives and promoting safer road usage across Nigeria.

The Kofi Annan Road Safety Award is an initiative of the Office of the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Road Safety, in collaboration with the Kofi Annan Foundation. This esteemed award was established to immortalize the contributions of the late Kofi Annan, the renowned former Secretary-General of the United Nations, particularly in the realm of road safety.

Mr. Ogungbemide emphasized that this prestigious Road Safety Management Award serves as a badge of honour for Nigeria, further demonstrating the nation’s commitment to road safety on the continental stage. He also highlighted that this achievement is a direct testament to President Bola Tinubu’s steadfast support for the FRSC and his confidence in the Corps’ capacity to serve as a benchmark for other road safety agencies in Africa.

“Indeed, FRSC’s tireless efforts to reduce road crashes and promote safe driving practices have paid off, earning recognition across the continent,” Mr. Ogungbemide stated.
