Rivers Police Inspector Dies by Suicide at Ex-LGA Chairman’s Residence

A police inspector serving in Rivers State, identified as Maxwell Zabu, has tragically taken his own life in Port Harcourt.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at the private residence of Zabu’s principal, the former Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area. While the exact motive remains unclear, early reports indicate that the officer died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Sources say the case was immediately reported at the Eagle Island Police Post, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Azikiwe Police Division in Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt. Detectives from the division promptly visited the scene to begin a preliminary investigation.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said while early indications point to suicide, a full-scale investigation is underway to determine the true circumstances surrounding Zabu’s death.

In a swift response, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt, for a more discreet and comprehensive probe.

The police command has assured the public that the outcome of the investigation will be made known in due course.
