After over a decade of building a life in Canada, Nigerian-born career coach Kelly Boyi has announced his departure from the country, citing economic instability, a struggling job market, and shifting personal goals as the driving forces behind his decision.
In an emotional message shared via social media, Boyi recounted his journey from arriving as a hopeful young immigrant in 2013 to becoming a Canadian citizen in 2023. Now, in 2025, he says it’s time to begin a new chapter.
“I landed in Canada as a young, wide-eyed, and somewhat naive boy chasing a dream,” he wrote. “Canada gave me my first job, my first car, my first property—and a lifetime of memories.”
Though filled with gratitude for the opportunities Canada offered, Boyi admitted the country’s evolving economic landscape made his decision to leave necessary. He pointed to growing concerns such as the housing crisis and employment challenges, which he believes have changed the promise Canada once held.

“This decision has been far from easy. My entire world is here… But I also have dreams that demand bold action,” he said, describing his move not as an act of rejection but one of personal evolution.
Boyi emphasized that his departure is not permanent, expressing hope and appreciation as he steps into the unknown. “This is not goodbye forever. Just a temporary pause,” he concluded.
His announcement resonates with many immigrants facing similar dilemmas, reflecting a broader conversation about the realities of modern migration, belonging, and the ever-changing face of opportunity.
