Stand-up comedian and actor, Bovi Ugboma, has publicly discussed the complex and strained relationship he had with his late father, attributing their difficulties to what he described as a pattern of negative energy and a “generational curse” within their family lineage.

In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Bovi shared his perspective on the challenging dynamic, stating that his father, in turn, had inherited this negativity. However, Bovi emphasized his conscious decision to break this cycle within his own life.

The comedian revealed that he had reached a point of forgiveness towards his father prior to his passing in February 2025. Despite the history of a difficult relationship, Bovi recounted that he and his siblings actively cared for their father during his illness, which spanned from 2021 until his death, ensuring he received love and support throughout that period.

Reflecting on the root of their strained bond, Bovi explained, “What made the relationship with my late father difficult is what they call family patterns or what the church calls ‘generational curses.’ My father gave me what he had, and what he had was a lot of negative energy. That was given to him as well. I have chosen to be the stop.”

Bovi acknowledged his past tendency to portray himself as a victim when recounting their story, admitting that he often spoke from a place of bitterness, focusing on the “loveless relationship.”

However, he highlighted his personal growth and the eventual reconciliation, stating,

“But long before he passed, I had already forgiven him. He was sick from 2021 till he passed; I and my siblings were taking care of him. And I was taking care of him with all the love. I didn’t struggle to take care of him.”
