A tense scene unfolded in Minna, Niger State on Tuesday, the 6th of May 2025, when a police response to a distress call turned into a bloody confrontation in the Anguwan-Daji community, Chanchaga LGA.
What began as a routine operation quickly spiraled as officers from the Central Police Division were met with violence during an attempted arrest.
The police identified the attacker as Bello Mai-danger, who they said obstructed the operation. As officers moved in, he reportedly lunged at them with a knife and cutlass, aiming to stop the arrest and liberate another suspect already in custody.
The next day, Wednesday, the 7th of May 2025, Police Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun issued a statement confirming the assault. He said one officer sustained injuries before the situation “escalated,” leading to the suspect being neutralised. Another suspect was taken into custody.

SP Abiodun defended the officers’ actions, stressing that force was necessary given the threat. He called on citizens to back law enforcement efforts, especially when officers face open hostility during arrests.
He also urged residents to keep sharing useful tips that could expose criminal elements hiding in communities.
The police command, he said, remains focused on protecting lives and keeping the state safe.
